Short communication: Analytical models for 2D landscape evolution

Abstract. Numerical modelling offers a unique approach to understand how tectonics, climate and surface processes govern landscape dynamics. However, the efficiency accuracy of current evolution models remain certain limitation. Here, I develop new strategy that relies on use 1D analytical solutions linear stream power equation compute dynamics landscapes in 2D. This uses ordering, by directed acyclic graph, model nodes based their location along water flow path propagate topographic changes can be used single time step, with an iterative procedure, steady-state topography subjected river, colluvial hillslope erosion. also adapted dynamic under either heterogeneous or time-variable uplift rate. leads slope–area relationships exactly consistent predictions exact preservation knickpoint shape throughout migration. Moreover, absence numerical diffusion upper bound for step significant advantages compared models. The main drawback this novel is it does not guarantee continuity through successive steps, despite practically having little impact behaviour.
